The Stars and Strikes east coast swing rolls on. leaving a festive trail of red, white and blue fire hydrants in its wake. (Well, figuratively, of course.) Last night, after grooving up from Philadelphia, I had the pleasure of boogie-ing over to Jersey City, where I guested on Evan "Funk" Davies' WFMU show. We had a blast talking baseball and the Bicentennial for two hours, while spinning tunes both classic and obscure ("Black Cojack"?!?) from 1976. If you missed it, you can listen to the archived broadcast HERE.
Big day in the Big Apple today: I'll be stopping by The Jewish Channel this afternoon to shoot a segment on Stars and Strikes (broadcast date TBD); then I'm doing a Q&A and book signing tonight at the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse, a wonderful place that should be visited by any baseball fan who lives in or visits NYC. The place is located at 67 E. 11th St., and the event starts at 7 pm. (ADMISSION IS FREE) And then, if that wasn't enough, tune in to tonight's Keith Olbermann show on ESPN2, and watch me talk about the 1976 season with the man who wrote the copy on the backs of the 1976 SSPC card set (i.e., Mr. Olbermann himself). The show airs live at 11 pm EDT, and I'm on around 11:30 — though check your local listings, as they say. (WHOOPS! The staff screwed up and I got bumped. They're trying to reschedule me for Monday night's Olbermann broadcast — will keep you posted!)
Tomorrow (Friday, June 27), I will be heeding the call of the Hall: At 2 pm, I will be reading and signing books in Cooperstown as part of the Baseball Hall of Fame's summer author series. The event will be held in the HOF's Bullpen Theater, and will be included FREE with paid admission to the HOF museum.
Of course, no visit to Noo Yawk is complete without a stop at Manitoba's, the last true rock and roll bar in the East Village. So Sunday, June 29, I will be doing a reading/signing event there (99 Ave. B, NYC), with the additional attraction of hot dogs, cracker jacks, peanuts, and readings by baseball historian Russell Wolinsky and the great Handsome Dick Manitoba himself. The fun starts at 7 pm. The 2012 reading I did at Manitoba's was a raucous good time, and I sincerely advise you not to miss this one! (ADMISSION IS FREE.)
On Monday, June 30, at 4 pm EDT, look for me on the MLB Network's MLB Now Live with Brian Kenny... and then I'm bound for Boston, which is where I'll be wrapping up this chapter of my Stars and Strikes road show with a reading, signing and slideshow at the Harvard Bookstore. The store is located at 1256 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge, and the fun begins at 7 pm. (ADMISSION IS FREE.)
Once again, I'd like to thank everyone who has already bought my book, reviewed it on Amazon and elsewhere, sent me messages of support, shared my links and tweets (@BigHairPlasGras) with the world, etc., etc. I'm so glad you're diggin' what I'm puttin' down!
