On this day in 1977, in Game 3 of the NL playoffs, the Dodgers came back from a 5-3 deficit against the Phillies with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. I was a Dodger fan back then, so I can vividly remember bumming out during Burt Hooton's meltdown (and Ron Cey's error) in the 2nd inning, and freaking out during the L.A.'s comeback in the 9th.
This footage may bring back some bad memories for you Phillies fans — especially that questionable "safe" call on Davey Lopes in the top of the 9th — but it's worth watching for the 'fro-tastic footage of Bake McBride and Garry Maddox, as well as for looks at Greg Luzinski, Gene Garber, Manny Mota, Vic Davalillo and other notable stars and role-players from the period, as well as the old Veterans Stadium in its glory days. And why Lopes is carrying his helmet while running to 2nd is beyond me...
