Valentine did have a great arm. In 1983 I went to a game at Fenway Park versus the Angels. Valentine was playing for the Halos then, and in batting practice he and Reggie Jackson were shagging flies in RF. At the end of BP they both made several throws toward the plate. Valentine reached home on the fly, and you could hang your laundry on the throws. As for Reggie, let's just say that's what the DH is for.
